The relationship that floored India a couple of years ago was finally solemnised. Indian Administrative Service (IAS) power couple Tina Dabi and Athar Aamir ul Shafi Khan tied the knot on Saturday, April 7.
While Dabi topped the civil services exams, Khan came second in 2015. Both are from the Rajasthan cadre.
The couple chose Jammu and Kashmir’s picturesque Pahalgam as the wedding venue. Pahalgam is a couple of hours away from Devepora Mattan – Khan’s ancestral village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
According to sources, the wedding took place in traditional Kashmiri style. Celebration will continue when the couple fly back to Delhi for more wedding ceremonies .
Tina Dabi wore a silver lehenga and a blood-red blouse, while Athar Aamir Khan wore a golden suit and a turban.
Dabi and Khan’s love story began when they were undergoing training. Their marriage — Dabi a Dalit and Khan a Kashmiri Muslim — has broken stereotypes.
While the families did not oppose the wedding, religious fringe groups called it a case of love jihad.
Some Hindu outfits even wrote a letter to Dabi’s parents to stop the marriage. Undeterred both Dabi and Khan proved that love cannot be bound by religion or caste.
J&K has been traditionally a honeymoon destination for many Indians. However, the spurt in militancy has hurt tourism. The wedding may act as a catalyst to bring back honeymooners.
