A British student studying in the USA has shared pictures of his broken nose and bloodied face after he was allegedly assaulted by his girlfriend.
Kathryn Mahoney was arrested last week on suspicion of assault. It is alleged that she punched Ben Kebbell in the face and stomach after he suggested that they should break up.
Nineteen-year-old Kebbell shared a gory photo with his nose bent out of shape on Snapchat captioned: “The Katie thing comes with a broken nose lol”.
However, despite initially seeing the funny side of it, his injuries did mean that he had to go to receive treatment at a local hospital.
The pair met whilst studying together at a small college of Fairfield University in Connecticut and also train together for the University’s swimming team. Kebbell was born on the Isle of Wight and Mahoney is in the first year of his studies.
His ex-girlfriend, Mahoney – who is also 19 – combines her studies with her part-time modelling career. She has gained a large following on social media since beginning her modelling career.
She frequently models for clothing company The Roosevelts and is tipped for big things by her photographer, Andres Linares. He told the company’s website: “This 19-year-old model from just outside Boston does it all, she grew up playing every sport you can imagine and has continued her athletic career in college.
“This athlete has been crushing Instagram, and now we started a photographer/model partnership that is starting to blow up.
“Her modeling career is just going up and before you notice you are going to see her face in GQ and obviously in Sports Illustrated.”
The police released a rather different photo to her usual style when they published the report with a tearful mugshot of the New Hampshire native.
Mahoney allegedly laid into him after he came around to her student accommodation to break up with her. Angered by this, she is alleged to have punched him twice before he grabbed her shoulders in an effort to stop her attacking him and then made a bid to escape.
After finding that he was unable to calm her down, he managed to get away to his friend’s dormitory where he took refuge.
It’s not clear whether they did eventually decide to break up or not, though given his injuries and her arrest you’d have to assume that they did.
Mahoney has been charged with third degree assault and disorderly conduct. Her bail was set at $1,500 (£1,080).
